Thoughts While Drinking

So… why a cocktail website?

I know… a website with over 15,000 cocktail recipes and a blog about drinking. It sounds like someone has a problem, right Well, that’s not the case, I assure you.

You see, I’ve been traveling for years. For nearly three decades, I’ve been a business traveler jumping from city to city, sometimes four cities over three nights. Marriott hotels were nice enough to make me Platinium Elite for life due to over 1,800 nights at their chain of hotels.

The one thing I never thought to do during these business trips was taking a moment to enjoy the actual moment. I was in a new city and seemed determined to get back to my hotel room every night to plug in and answer emails.

Then came a time at work when I was essentially commuting from Boston to Nashville every other week, running a location with 300 people working there. During that time, I was asked to play on the company softball team, invited to the Nashville Sounds minor league baseball game, started following certain artists who were performing on Broadway at different honk tonks, taking in a Nashville Predators NHL hockey game at Bridgestone arena, and seeing acts like Little Big Town, Brothers Osborne, Kacey Musgraves, the Oakridge Boys, and Brad Paisley at the Grand Ole Opry.

It was these moments that made me realize business travel could be leisure travel as well.

When I started finding good restaurants, bars, taverns, speakeasies, and distilleries, I wanted to try the local stuff… the cocktail the place has as their signature drink.

Fast forward and I’m now married to a wonderful woman who likes cooking, traveling, adventures, and trying new places, and has a dad who is an amateur woodworker.

Now we have a nice handmade bar in the house (complete with a brass footrail), a name (“The Sanctuary”), a logo, and a website with a database of over 15,000 cocktails.

Now there is no way we are ever going to make them all, but we hope this site gives you some ideas on what to try the next time you’re shaking a cocktail to impress some guests, out on the town for a good night out, or are looking for ideas on what you can make with whatever is left from your last party.

Enjoy!
